Why is no one telling the parties involved that the privacy of the nuclear family structure itself is part of the problem? In the father-mother-child triangle, erotic attraction, economic dependence, and child-rearing are interconnected. However, the fundamental assumption of this constellation—the lifelong romantic relationship—does not withstand the realities of everyday life. The author demonstrates how the nuclear family is one of the pillars of the patriarchal system and why it is continuously reproduced doctrinally in political and media discourse, as well as in psychological theories and psychotherapeutic treatment principles. With this book, the author provides an important societal critique that reexamines the topic of (nuclear) family by calling for a radical rethinking of family life. She starts from the suffering caused by nuclear family dynamics.
