Mentoring is on everyone's lips and seems to have become a panacea for various concerns - in business for onboarding new employees, for students transitioning into their first job, for women on their way to leadership positions, and so on. However, the question of how it works needs to be examined more closely. The authors fill this gap and reveal discrepancies between desire and reality in order to achieve a better integration of theory and practice.
