Product details
Buer has existed for over a thousand years. In 1448, the village became independent as Freiheit Buer and received a coat of arms featuring a lime tree as a symbol of its independence. The Buer lime tree has remained a symbol of the place to this day. Since the end of the 19th century, Buer has experienced a rapid economic upswing. From 1890 to 1910 alone, the population grew from 11,000 to over 61,000. By 1922, Buer had become a large city. This illustrated book connects to that eventful and exciting time and spans to the present day. Over 200 extraordinary, mostly unpublished photos showcase the everyday life of the residents of Buer between 1900 and 2000. The mines Hugo and Scholven, Ewald and Bismarck, Bergmannsglück, and the Hassel coking plant come back to life. Streets and shops that have disappeared from the cityscape evoke memories of old Buer. Helmut Lindn.
