Building in accordance with material requirements and free of defects can only be achieved by considering the interplay between construction and the optimized choice of materials. Given the abundance of available natural and artificial building materials, a comprehensive knowledge of materials is essential. The behavior of typically multilayered building components with their different materials as building elements throughout their lifecycle can only be predicted by planners and executors through careful consideration of each individual case. To fully understand the current state of development, material property values are essential and must also be interpreted carefully for the specific task at hand. This work provides the foundations for assessment while simultaneously emphasizing the necessity of responsible action.
