The history of the Burg Herzberg Festival begins with a band competition. The organizers, The Petards, want to enhance their annual fan club meeting in this way. But fate has more in store for this place. Within three years, the provincial castle beat show grows into a professional festival of national significance, gathering almost all the major bands of Krautrock on stage, including Can, Embryo, Amon Düül II, Guru Guru, Tangerine Dream, and others. Then The Petards part ways, and for nearly two decades, silence falls over the castle until Kalle Becker revives the legend in 1991.
