Concept: All fundamental forms and structures from the areas of sound and writing, grammar, and vocabulary (approximately 2,300 lexical units) are taught in 29 lessons. Each lesson is structured according to the following understanding and learning phases: making the learning material conscious with the help of patterns and tables, contrasting with German where necessary; transferring the new knowledge in the reception phase through rule-guided instructions and directed exercises in monologic and dialogic speech; mastering the newly acquired expressive abilities in the production phase through independent texts.

For the second fully revised edition, the textbook has been divided as follows: Volume 1 includes lessons 1 to 15, and Volume 2 includes lessons 16 to 29. Each volume also contains the corresponding homework and glossaries for the respective lessons, as well as a CD with audio exercises in mp3 format and the Grammar Solution Trainer 3.0.
