The textbook for beginner instruction consists of two volumes with a total of 40 lessons. Both volumes are presented in a short character and a long character version. Each lesson offers a text or dialogue with explanations of vocabulary, German grammar explanations, and an extensive exercise section. The Pinyin transcription of the texts and exercises is omitted from the beginning. Each volume concludes with a German-Chinese vocabulary index, including Pinyin transcription. Audio recordings of all lesson texts and vocabulary lists, as well as answer keys, facilitate self-study. Learning objectives: The textbook imparts an understanding of grammatical and linguistic phenomena as well as reading and writing skills, and promotes listening and speaking competence. The vocabulary used in volumes 1.1 and 1.2 is largely based on the grammatical structures.
