The études in this collection are by the violinist and composer Rodolphe Kreutzer. In addition to some works for orchestra and the stage, the professor of violin playing published 42 practice pieces that are still well-known among many violin students today. However, according to the editor Walther Davisson, the pieces, which were originally intended for use in instrumental instruction, are too difficult for beginners and should only be practiced after a thorough acquaintance with the instrument. In the hands of a more experienced violinist, however, they are a great means to reconsider and solidify technical playing aspects. The pieces in this new edition have been supplemented with revised fingerings and playing instructions that allow for a smooth and enjoyable performance.
