Social injustice. Is this a topic for the elites? In Germany, the gap between the rich and the poor is growing ever wider. Michael Hartmann, a researcher specializing in elites, has written a book that describes the family backgrounds of the 1,000 most powerful people in Germany and outlines their views on social inequality in the country as well as the causes of the financial crisis. It becomes clear that many survey participants, in contrast to the general population, perceive the prevailing conditions as just. This book presents the results of a survey conducted in 2012 that covered top positions in key sectors. The conclusion: The increasing alignment of the German political sector with economic interests and the wealthy threatens to undermine our democracy.
