The volume differs from previous ones in that it now connects the story with the real events surrounding the beginning of the Great German Peasants' War in the area of Ulm and Lake Constance. Specifically, it addresses the course of the uprisings in Langenau/Leipheim and in Weingarten. Historical figures such as the Truchsess of Waldburg, Luther, and Münzer become protagonists of the narrative. A comprehensive historical appendix is also included once again. Veit himself and his loyal followers plunder castles and join the peasant forces in Leipheim. After the defeat of the peasant army, Veit turns with his supporters to Weingarten to the strong forces of the local lake farmers, mostly trained mercenaries. Here, the Truchsess is brought to the brink of defeat, from which he can only escape through delaying tactics and skillful negotiation.
