Individuals who professionally deal with the consequences of persecution during the National Socialist era—whether as therapists, social workers, elderly care providers, staff at memorial sites, artists, or historians—are confronted with the traces of past violence. The associated burden can overwhelm the coping mechanisms of those affected, potentially leading to secondary traumatization. In this book, the author connects systemic concepts with aspects of salutogenesis, trauma theories, and explanatory approaches to secondary traumatization. Based on her developed systemic understanding of trauma, she explores what can help individuals in these professional contexts remain healthy despite secondary trauma exposure. Drawing on research findings, the author proposes her concept of trauma-sensitive systemic supervision.
