Carl Orff's Carmina Burana is one of the most frequently performed works. In contrast, it is surprising how little current literature exists about it and how much of what is available is scattered, hard to access, or merely reprints of older texts. For this introduction, Susanne Gläss has listened to the work anew and read it with the questions that arise for anyone performing, listening to, or researching Carmina Burana today. At the same time, she compiles the latest research findings from literature and musicology. The 25 sections of Orff's Carmina Burana are commented on in sequence, closely aligned with the text, clearly understandable, and with an eye towards practical performance.
