Product details

USA, 1949... Kevin Yamagata, an American of Japanese descent, is the creator of the comic bestseller "Billy Bat." The main character is a bat, illustrated in a style that blends classic Disney and superhero comics. Suddenly, Kevin learns that the bat character has supposedly existed in Japan for a long time. Did he not actually invent "Billy Bat" himself? Kevin decides to travel to Japan to find out more and to apologize to the character's creator for the idea theft. Upon his arrival, he becomes embroiled in a whirlwind of dramatic events that will upend his life. The odyssey of the artist continues, taking Kevin into 1950s America. In search of the origins of his comic character, he finds himself in a world torn between the American civil rights movement, bigoted respectability, and racist organizations.
