Japan during the post-war period in the 1950s: Young Hiroshi Katsumi from Osaka draws manga. Initially, he creates short strips for magazines and newspapers, but he quickly develops ideas for longer stories. Inspired by the successful Osamu Tezuka, he finds himself in the midst of the rapidly growing manga industry, where a vibrant spirit of innovation clashes with fierce competition for young artistic talent.
