Product details

In June 1811, Caspar David Friedrich wandered through the Harz mountains in the company of his sculptor friend Kühn. The natural beauty of this mountain range inspired many artists. With the bag slung over his shoulder, Kersting had already sketched his fellow painter Friedrich in the Giant Mountains. Once again, Friedrich carried the tools with which he captured his impressions. The comparative photographs of the changing landscape still attest to the precision of his work. That Friedrich found himself in good company with painters, alongside Hans Christian Andersen and Heinrich von Kleist, during this time of growing tourism is illustrated, among other things, in the Brocken guestbook published in 1850. Herrmann Zschoche has carefully traced the footsteps of Caspar David Friedrich in the Harz and now presents his findings, as he previously did with Caspar David Friedrich's Rügen.
