Product details

After the Eternal City, it is probably the second most well-known place for pilgrims and tourists in Lazio: Castel Gandolfo is a small town located about 24 kilometers southeast of Rome. Among its nearly 9,000 residents, the Pope also resides here for several weeks each year. In this brochure, richly illustrated, Swiss journalist Mario Galgano presents the summer residence of the Catholic Church's leader. At the center of the complex, which is larger than the Vatican City, stands the Apostolic Palace with its numerous artistically decorated rooms and chapels. The papal villas are also noteworthy, especially the Villa Barberini, which houses the Vatican Gardens. However, Castel Gandolfo also features several other churches and chapels that do not belong to the Vatican, some of which are among the most famous.
