Product details
Various gender debates in Islamic countries are examined in this collection by students from different disciplines at Humboldt University in Berlin. The papers illuminate the position of women as well as the overall gender relations in a wide range of discourses: concerning family, society, dress codes, and also sexuality in Islam. For instance, the following questions are addressed: How do women expand their options for action, and with what strategies do they conquer new social spaces and fields of action? How do they interpret and negotiate religious rules and cultural norms? In doing so, the young researchers succeed in presenting a nuanced perspective that counters stereotypical images while taking regional specifics into account.
