The starting point for this critique of the concept of the image is the triadic fundamental relationship between image, perception, and symbolic forms. For this reason, the thematic direction of the work primarily stems from a cultural philosophical criterion of the concept of the image - the criterion of symbolic articulation - leading to a determination of the individuality of the image as a work of art and thereby also to a normative determination of the concept of the image itself. It is precisely the Cassirerian relationship between the concept of symbolic pregnance and the concept of physiognomic experience that expresses the image as a work of art in a peculiar and original way and, regarding this reflection, corresponds to the core of the concept of the image, which develops here according to Cassirer's philosophy.
