Youth officers are an essential part of the public relations work of the Bundeswehr as advisors on security policy. Whether it's teaching units in political education, security policy simulations, barracks visits with school classes, seminars for trainees and teachers, or the provision of teaching materials - the offerings of youth officers are diverse. In 2010, over 170,000 participants, mostly young people aged 14 and older, were reached through such political education events. Since the founding years of the Bundeswehr, there has been an effort to intensify its influence on the school education system. To strengthen the collaboration between youth officers and schools, cooperation agreements between ministries of education and the Bundeswehr have been established in eight federal states in recent years.
