Education remains widespread across all social classes, age groups, and areas of life: in families, schools, professions, and politics, as well as in media and religions. However, the history of education shows that it can produce failures and negative developments: instead of fostering self-determination, it generates obedience; instead of maturity, it leads to oppression; instead of care and empathy, it results in physical and psychological violence; instead of sustaining life, it brings destruction. Individual and social growth and development processes cannot be "unpunished" channeled or even stifled by educational influences. Reinhold Miller illustrates how interpersonal relationships, grounded in love, can replace education driven by power and the motive to change others.
