Since the reform of the military service in 2011, volunteer fire departments and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief have faced the challenge of attracting citizens for long-term volunteer work. Demographic changes, increased work demands, and greater mobility make it difficult to recruit new volunteers and ensure their ongoing commitment. Until now, measures to strengthen voluntary engagement in civil protection have focused on making participation in authorities and organizations more attractive. This has included recruitment campaigns and support from employers, as well as public honors and other forms of recognition aimed at reducing barriers and facilitating entry into volunteer work. This volume focuses on strengthening retention to promote continued engagement after entry into volunteer service.
