Product details

In September 1763, Carl Gottlob Beck became a citizen of the Free Imperial City of Nördlingen. This marks the beginning of the history of a publishing house that, through its publishers and programs, becomes a reflection of German intellectual and historical events. Stefan Rebenich, one of the leading historians of science in Germany, has researched the history of the C.H. Beck publishing house through years of source work. In his book, he describes the tumultuous developments of this traditional company from its beginnings in the Swabian Protestant milieu to becoming one of the leading humanities publishers of today. It becomes clear that over the centuries, the authors and works published by C.H. Beck mirror the intellectual developments of Germany. This is true for the liberal and national tendencies during the first one hundred and fifty years of the publishing house in Kön.
