Munich held a special position as the capital of the movement, housing the NSDAP administrative apparatus and the so-called Führer buildings in the Third Reich. From here, Hitler rose to power as a dictator. During the war, the region developed into one of the most important locations for the armaments industry. Concentration camp prisoners built bunkers in the surrounding forests, where weapons were to be produced for the final victory. With the leaflet actions of the White Rose and the assassination attempt by Georg Elser, Munich also became a center of resistance. Today, many of the historically significant sites are hardly recognizable. The often inconspicuous information signs go unnoticed by most.
