Rudolf Nietzki, born on March 9, 1847, studied pharmacy in Berlin and passed his state examination there in 1871. He received his Ph.D. in philosophy in Göttingen in 1874 and habilitated at the University of Basel in 1884, where he later became a professor of chemistry. Rudolf Nietzki made significant contributions to the scientific foundation of a new class of synthetic dyes. The highly regarded textbook "Chemistry of Organic Dyes" was first published in 1888 and has been translated into several languages. This is a high-quality reprint of the fifth, revised edition from 1906.
