Product details
Bent Larsen (1935-2010) was the best chess player in the history of Denmark and, at times, the second-best player in the Western world, behind Bobby Fischer. Between 1954 and 1971, he won the Danish national championship six times and celebrated numerous international tournament victories throughout his career. At the 1956 Chess Olympiad, Larsen was the most successful player on the first board and received the individual gold medal. In the legendary match "USSR vs. the Rest of the World" in 1970, he played on the top board for the World team and won his duel with a score of 2.5 to 1.5. Bent Larsen was an uncompromising attacking player but also developed many original positional concepts. The opening 1.b3 is named after him, and he introduced successful new ideas in the accelerated Dragon variation as well.
