The book paints a gripping picture of the conditions of growing up since 1945. Autobiographical flashbacks immerse us in childhood worlds that could not be more different. Among others, nearly 40 prominent figures share touching memories of their childhood. We are invited to look back with many people from Vorarlberg, who openly recount hardships and happiness, love and affection, as well as unimaginable emotional coldness and poverty. Dark and bright chapters spanning almost 70 years of regional history with a focus on children reveal further topics: the changing (legal) status of the child, the socio-political landscape, the history of schools, and the story of the Vorarlberg Children's Village are examined. What emerges is a collection of striking historical documents and reflections that leave a lasting impression on us.
