Product details

The writer Gerhard Roth has been using the camera for many years as a probe that helps him observe and discover. He is not interested in "beautiful" photography, but rather in everything that seems secondary and taken for granted, the most mundane aspects right outside his door. For a long time, the camera served as a tool for him, a different way to take notes, a memory storage outside of his own mind. In Vienna, he created more than 10,000 photographs over 23 years. During his explorations, Roth visited numerous hidden places: the Narrenturm as well as the Wittgenstein House, the mummy depot at the KHM as well as the depots at the Natural History Museum, or the Institute for the Deaf. He visited the refugee camp in Traiskirchen and the Jewish cemetery on Seegasse. This reveals another Vienna, the Vienna of the unknown, the secret, the forgotten.
