First publication about the artist group 'Kreis 48' with contributions from Georg Kreis, Werner von Mutzenbecher, Simon Baur, Maria Becker, Peter Suter, Andrea S. Végh, Annemarie Monteil, and many others. In 1948, artists in Basel founded 'Kreis 48'. The goal was to organize exhibitions together and represent the group's interests in public. From the very beginning, a close friendship developed among the artists. The oeuvre of the painters and sculptors began in the late 1930s and unfolded after World War II. For most, the figurative representation of the human figure was a central theme. In the founding year, a first group exhibition took place at the Ernst Beyeler Gallery, and later the group exhibited at the Kunsthalle Basel.
