The works of the painter Cristina Spoerri, who passed away in 2013, were widely recognized and regularly featured in the Christmas and later annual exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Basel. The well-traveled artist, whose work is based on a drawing style, fundamentally identified herself as a painter. In her struggle for compositions, whose often geometric structure remains permeable to movement and light, she developed her own visual language. She created an extensive body of work and was honored with numerous awards, including the European Prize for Painting and the Prize of the Swiss Confederation. Until now, there has been a lack of a comprehensive appreciation of Cristina Spoerri's artistic work. The richly illustrated book now available fills this gap. Through a dense selection of reproductions, it traces the artist's career and situates her work within the context of Swiss art.
