The book tells the story of the two Basel ice clowns, Buddy Elias and Otto Rehorek. They celebrated great successes in the 1940s and 1950s with various ice revues around the world. The book highlights the stages of their joint careers but also follows the two different paths they took after their separation in 1953: Otto Rehorek returned to Basel and became a graphic designer, a famous stadium announcer for FC Basel, and an important figure in the pre-carnival event Drummeli. Buddy Elias remained an ice clown with Holiday on Ice for several years before returning to his acting career, participating in many films and especially in television series. Buddy Elias is the cousin and last living relative of Anne Frank, who was murdered by the Nazis. As president of the Basel Anne Frank Fund, he was awarded the Honorary Medal in 2012 for his commitment to combating forgetfulness.
