For over two decades, Alevi cultural associations have been working to promote their cultural and religious traditions in Switzerland. They are also committed to the public recognition of their faith community. In this book, the author describes the emergence and development of the Alevi movement in Switzerland and discusses the conditions and strategies for incorporation into the society of the country. Based on an ethnography that takes place in various locations in Switzerland, as well as in Germany and Turkey, the gradual institutionalization of the Alevi movement in Switzerland and in the transnational space is depicted. Conflicts are highlighted that relate both to differing understandings of Alevism and to societal transformation processes and divergences.
