Product details

On February 5, 1916, Hugo Ball and Emmy Hennings opened the artist's pub Voltaire in Zurich. In the following months, they, along with artists Hans Arp, Richard Huelsenbeck, Marcel Janco, and Tristan Tzara, formed the Zurich Dada group. The playful nonsense emerging from nothing was to become one of the most influential artistic movements of the 20th century. Dada integrates all arts, creates new forms of expression, presents itself as an autonomous play, and yet is entirely contextualized within the First World War. This interdisciplinary volume gathers current positions in Dada and avant-garde research. Programmatic writings and artistic performances, the historicization and reception, as well as the construction of the Dada myth, are re-examined. Contributions are made by Ursula Amrein, Christa Baumberger, Nicola Behrmann, Mona De Weerdt, Heike Gfrereis, and Gabriel.
