Product details

Examining the everyday use of money reveals how diverse and, above all, how symbolic money is employed, and how inextricably intertwined the cultural and economic aspects are. Money is no longer merely a means of consumption. Individual economic decision-making is approached with cultural strategies, and cultural practices are shaped by economic conditions. What importance is assigned to frugality? When is a wage considered fair? What role does pleasure consumption play in daily life? How does the handling of money express the concept of a couple's relationship? When is it more pleasant to be invited, and when is one more inclined to pay for oneself? How is the handling of money organized or tabooed within the family? This is explored through interviews with individuals from the Swiss middle class regarding their everyday dealings with money.
