For centuries, the public space of Zurich has been artistically shaped. Today, over 1300 works define the outdoor areas in the various neighborhoods of the city. The collection is characterized by an impressive diversity: old works stand alongside new, small next to large, figurative next to abstract, public next to private, popular next to controversial. Some murals, sculptures, and installations have gained fame because they were created by artists such as Hans Arp, Max Bill, Henry Moore, or Auguste Rodin; numerous reliefs and sculptures found at fountains, doorways, or in parks, however, are hardly known.
