Product details

As a former officer and paratrooper in the special forces of the Algerian army, 31-year-old Habib Souaïdia witnessed torture, executions, and massacres of the civilian population. He meticulously describes these atrocities in this book. Additionally, Souaïdia lifts the veil on one of the greatest taboos of the Algerian drama: the internal workings of the Algerian army. He reveals the calculating cynicism and bloodlust of certain generals, the indoctrination of their troops, as well as the despair of soldiers who are forced into barbaric acts, the horrific consequences of drug use, and internal purges. "I saw colleagues burn a 15-year-old child alive. I saw lieutenants coldly murder mere suspects. I witnessed officers torturing Islamists to death. There are too many violations of human dignity for me to remain silent." This is the first time a military member has openly reported under his real name about the events that have threatened to tear Algeria apart since 1992. Habib Souaïdia's book "La sale guerre" was published in February 2001 in France. It caused a significant stir and resonated strongly in both France and Algeria, and it was also mentioned worldwide in the foreign reporting of various media outlets.
