A special manuscript titled "Handtbuch vor einen jeweilligen Creüzlingerischen Kuechen- Kellers- unndt Proviant-maister" has been preserved from the former Augustinian Canonry of Kreuzlingen and is now published for the first time in its full text and comprehensively commented. While the roots of such monastic text genres date back to the late Middle Ages, this order document, completed around 1716 by the then kitchen master, is unique in its scope, detail, and research possibilities for the eastern Swiss region. The manuscript not only addresses all relevant matters in the kitchen, cellar, and other provisioning facilities that needed careful regulation within a monastic economy, but it also points to entirely different dimensions: as a true administrative, regulatory, or better yet, disciplinary instrument.
