Product details

One cannot overlook Pierre Boulez when following the music history of the 20th century. As a composer and conductor, as well as a manager and music mediator, the 84-year-old is a prominent figure. Since the summer of 2004, he has been passing on his immense wealth of experience to a young generation through the Lucerne Festival Academy. The highlight and conclusion of the Academy in 2008 was the symphony concert on September 5th at the concert hall of the Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre. The program featured the world premieres of two young composers, works by the two masters Luciano Berio and Elliott Carter, as well as the epochal "Sacre du printemps" by Igor Stravinsky. This hour and a half of music, documented on CD, illuminates the monograph from varying perspectives. The participants, both musicians and listeners, have their voices heard alongside the music as a sound event itself. The methods applied are correspondingly diverse, ranging from participatory observation to computer-assisted interpretive analysis. The phonographic monograph orbits the concert on different trajectories, allowing for both close-up views and broader overviews.
