In the social web, young people creatively express a shared heritage from the Western Balkan states in various ways. This results in photographs and collage images that negotiate stereotypical notions of the "Balkan." The book provides insight into the media worlds of post-migrant youth cultures in German-speaking Europe, particularly in Switzerland. Through numerous examples, it demonstrates how concepts of ethnicity and origin are appropriated and also reproduced in the context of digital photography and online communication. The focus is on the intermedial practices through which symbols and narratives from youth and popular culture, as well as from national discourses, are woven into new narratives of "Balkan-ness." It also addresses the ambivalence of creative invocation and social empowerment in processes of societal aesthetics.
