The resumption of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and the Soviet Union in 1946 is associated in collective memory with the idea of a period devoid of relations. This can be explained by the fact that there were no official diplomatic relations between 1918 and 1946. However, Christine Gehrig-Straube demonstrates that a diverse network of threads and contacts, albeit not at an official level, existed that had survived the break in relations, both on the Soviet and Swiss sides, regardless of the foreign policy attitudes of the two governments towards each other.
