The Swiss writer Meinrad Inglin is considered one of the most significant Swiss prose writers of the 20th century, alongside Walser, Frisch, Dürrenmatt, and Lötscher. His panoramic family novel "Schweizerspiegel" is regarded as a challenging and outstanding literary achievement in addressing the crises of the liberal state model. Many of his texts demonstrate a psychological sensitivity to the inner developments of the characters. His narrative work continues to impress with its complex references to discourses on homeland, nature, human nature, religion, and civic reason. Despite the increasing struggle for literary classicism, Inglin's work remains at the heart of the movements of his time. In some texts, particularly from the 1920s and early 1930s, one can discern a susceptibility to nationalist ideological themes, while later he occasionally appears as a precursor to ecological movements.
