How do groups and actors develop their culture, and how do everyday phenomena become special, valued cultural assets? What role does technology play in the emergence of auditory cultural goods? This study explores the sensually-ephemeral dimension of the creation of cultural goods and heritage through the lens of everyday soundscapes and from the perspective of an anthropology of the senses: the relationship between groups and their cultural goods and the stabilization of this connection through performances, media, and archives. The author connects the fields of cultural studies, sound studies, and heritage studies. Based on interviews, radio archives, and other ethnographic data, empirical case studies from the everyday sound world examine the maritime soundscape of Flensburg and resonant places of memory.
