Product details

The psychiatrist is particularly familiar with the issue of suicide, as well as with the medical knowledge surrounding voluntary and involuntary dying. I have known the practice of assisted dying in Switzerland for many years and have experienced its dependence on the judiciary up close. After being convicted and pardoned, I can now, at my age, say and write what I believe to be right without fear for my professional existence. It was Peter Baumann's conviction that discussing suicidal intentions and addressing safe, non-aggressive dying methods is the best preventive measure against suicide and against difficult dying situations. As a psychiatrist, he fought vehemently for the recognition of autonomy and against the patronization of those wishing to die. He himself passed away before he could fulfill his intention to document his experiences and reflections in a book.
