Product details

He was, as a Habsburg, "a born, good citizen of the Confederation," Maximilian proclaimed in 1507 in Constance, thus recalling the Aargau roots of the Habsburgs and their former rule over the territory of present-day Switzerland. Even though the supposedly irreconcilable contrasts between Habsburg and the Confederation were emphasized since the late Middle Ages, the heritage and original significance of the Habsburgs make it clear that they are also part of Swiss history. However, under the influence of a "national" historiography, Swiss history was long viewed primarily from the perspective of Central Switzerland. Only in recent years has there been a questioning of classical historical narratives and a shift in emphasis. Not least, the Habsburg past has come to the forefront. Instead of focusing on battles, the interest now lies in everyday life.
