Where did his life go?'
German, Florinne Egli, 2014Product details
In the last fifteen years, numerous picture books about dying and death have been published in the German-speaking world. This study examines 33 of these books, which were published between 2000 and 2011 in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. It begins with a discussion of the medium of picture books, followed by an exploration of dying and death in general, and finally, dying and death in picture books. The considerations provide a historical overview while also discussing current trends. The subsequent interdisciplinary analysis shows how dying and death are addressed in text and illustration, what mentalities can be identified, and which representations of reality are significant within a society. The focus is primarily on the naming of causes of death, the use of metaphors, symbols, and concepts.
