Ruth Benedict (1887-1948), who is considered one of the most influential cultural anthropologists of the 20th century alongside Margaret Mead, examines in this study the personality, thought patterns, value systems, and norms of action of the Japanese. She attempts to highlight the Japanese premises regarding the "correct" way of life and how these manifest in family, economy, religion, and politics.
