Product details

Only from 1958 onwards were the Germans allowed to love their "Duck," as the French Volkswagen only arrived here with a ten-year delay, which actually fueled the cult surrounding the 2CV rather than hindered it. By the late sixties, the "Duck" became an automotive declaration of protest for an entire generation. The fact that this now quite anachronistic automobile from France was continuously produced until 1990 is an exceptional occurrence in international automotive history. Jan Eggermann takes us on an automotive journey through the second half of the last century, describing how the "Duck" captured the hearts of its drivers, why the 2CV was especially successful in the sixties and seventies, and what led Citroën to cease production: the first book about the 2CV in Germany. Chronologically arranged data sets on the 2CV models sold in Germany—such as the Belgian variants AZL3 or 3CV, the 2CV Special dubbed the 'Original Duck,' or the 'German' special models 'I fly bleifrei' or 'Sausss-Ente'—along with chapters on the production plants of the 2CV make this book a worthwhile treatise on German-French automotive and contemporary history.
