Carl Johann Rehfus (1857-1926), also known as Oberländer, was a German hunting writer and cynologist. He authored guides for aspiring hunters as well as recommendations for experienced hunters and breeders. Oberländer's books are now sought-after collectibles among hunting and literature enthusiasts. In the preface of this volume, the author explains to the interested reader the effect he wishes to achieve with this travel narrative: "The ideal task of a travel description, in my view, is to evoke in the reader's mind the same impressions and thoughts that the traveler experienced in a foreign land, enabling the reader to see through the eyes of the narrator and to mentally accompany the journey. [...] What I intend is to present the northern lands to my fellow hunters in a way that resembles how an oil painting is presented to a viewer, from which they derive pleasure [...]. This is a carefully edited reprint of the original edition from 1899, featuring 68 illustrations.
