Product details
Claus Becker, better known as Claus Störtebecker, is surrounded by legends and myths. Even during his lifetime, he was considered a legend. Together with Heino Wichmann and Gödeke Michael, he fought for justice in the 14th century like no one else, battling against the nobility and trying to strengthen the position of the poor. In his fight against Queen Margrete I of Denmark and the Hanseatic League, Störtebecker engaged in piracy in the North and Baltic Seas as a member of the Vitalienbrüder. Georg Engel tells the story of Störtebecker from his childhood to his beheading in 1402, vividly revealing the development of the Hanseatic privateer. Georg Engel (1866-1931) was a German writer who studied philosophy and history in Berlin. His body of work includes numerous novels and dramas, often depicting Northern German characters.
