Climate - Change - Alps
German, 2007Product details
The Alps are considered an early warning system for the effects of climate change: On one hand, the average temperature in the Alps has risen twice as fast as the global average over the past 50 years. At the same time, the Alpine region is particularly sensitive to climate changes. Since the global climate system reacts very slowly, drastic consequences are unavoidable even if international climate protection goals are tightened and implemented globally. Therefore, the conference proceedings focus on the increasing threat to alpine regions from natural hazards and the impacts of climate change on alpine tourism. A key emphasis is on presenting local and regional good practice examples where sustainable strategies for dealing with increasing natural hazards and adaptation strategies for the tourism industry have been implemented.
