Since 2020, NATO has been advancing a new form of psychological warfare: the so-called cognitive warfare, which NATO itself describes as the most advanced form of manipulation. This targets the psyche of every individual directly, aiming to 'hack' our minds like a computer. Propaganda researcher Jonas Tögel explains the background and history of cognitive warfare; from the beginning of modern war propaganda 100 years ago, through the militarization of neuroscience, to future technologies such as nanorobots or neuro-weapons. He demonstrates that the war of thoughts is often already taking place unnoticed through so-called soft power techniques.
